Websites VS Blog Comparison

My website is not a blog, it’s a website built with blog software.

WordPress Powered Websites

This post stems from being inundated with requests for blog software being used to power a website. There are pros and cons with both yet they are, in principle “a website”. Publishing and Modifying Content

Create Web Pages in Minutes

Create Web Pages in Minutes

Blog

In blogging software you can create your document in Microsoft word. Then paste it right into your blog interface, apply styles, choose a category, add keywords, add description and click publish. This is all done with a publishing interface you log into. When you become familiar with blog publishing it takes 5 minutes or less to publish a web page. This includes optimizing each article for aesthetics and search engines.

Website

To add a new article to your website, planning and linking is needed. Each new public webpage requires content, keywords, description, page titling, linking from navigation menu and on page structure. This is often performed using html editors like Dreamweaver or Front Page. When an html webpage is prepared for publishing it requires a fair level of knowledge to publish an article that appeals to people and search engines.

HTML Editors

WordPress Requires no HTML Knowledge

Blog

HTML knowledge or editors are not required to administrate to a blog. You will need to learn the interface for publication purposes. It is quite simple but there are tips we will offer in our tutorial that will make WordPress blogging even more meaningful to your business. Take some of the money you would have to spend on software and/or webmaster help to gain knowledge for life. WordPress blog software is completely free and incredibly powerful.

Website

Not all coders use editors, some prefer old fashion coding by hand in a WordPad program. The majority of website publishers will use programs like Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, flash or FrontPage. The idea with these programs is they are used to prepare a document for the web. Depending on the type of site, you need to own one or more of these programs. Here are prices for the most common html editors.

Dreamweaver CS4 $399

Adobe Fireworks $299

Front Page $ $247.45

Adobe Flash $699

Now, sit down and spend hours learning how to use them, uuuug! I say this because I have done it all from hand coding to html editors to blogging.

Direct Access to Server (FTP)

WordPress is connected to you.

Blog

When your blog software is installed it is connected to your server using a MySQL data base. The software is installed one time, and then the administrator has full permissions to publish content. All you need is a user name and password to login.

Website

The webmaster will need to connect to the server with host IP address, user name and password each time updates or modifications are needed. A Program like FileZilla is a free FTP program that you can download to allow FTP access. After you create and optimize your web pages you will be required to upload the file and all its dependents  (images include programming, etc) to the server.
