Google Analytics Client Questions
Below is an original request from Linda who has given me permission to post our conversation. Linda has many good questions in Google Analytics. This is one of many email talks Linda and I have had. She is quite savvy and asks questions that are far deeper than Analytics alone. I am a believer that the more you know about how things work online the better your analytics skills will be. Linda is a perfect example. Below is Linda’s second email

I am a business owner that creates websites. Many of my clients are requesting analytics and reports from analytics. Because I have developed a trusting relationship my clients they trust me to bring them sound advice on website analytics. I have been looking at Google for the simple reason that it’s free. I have also read up on the pros and cons of Google’s hosted solution, it seems the biggest barrier is not controlling your own data. I have also seen several comments on a lag in data reporting. If the data appears in my reports within 24 hours I am OK with that. As far as Google owning the data, I can see we are able to download our data through the API tool or from report interface. All things considered I would like to go ahead and learn some of the finer points in set up and reporting. I got your name from one of your other students; he tells me your methods of one on one teaching are excellent. I want to go ahead and take the same course Rick did but before I do I have some questions.
Does Google Analytics offer these types of reports?
========================================================================
Site Stats
- Reports on site traffic — what pages were viewed by hour, day, week, month, quarter and year
- Unique visitors — number by hour, day, week, month, quarter and year

Google Analytics Training Video Series
Marketing Reports
- Information on how the visitors got to the web site — what search engine they used, what they typed in to get to the website (i.e. key words), other website links that led to site, what visitors were most active on the website by domain address (e.g., Rogers, Bell, Google)
Visitor Profile Reports
- Visitor details — IP address / domain name of each visitor, number of visits, number of unique visitors, last 100 visitors, return visits, most popular pages, time spent on site, on each page, return frequency
- Browser used by visitor (including browser width and height)
- Operating system used by visitor
- Monitor resolution
- Language
- Netscape plug-ins
- Java script version
- Cookies
- Time zone
- Country
Site Path Reports
- Site paths — i.e., where visitors entered the website and where they exited the website, what percentage of visitors followed that same paths, page reload statistics, page depth (% that followed specific paths), percentage of pages viewed
Getting more visitor details, particularly their domain details and site path details, will be really key as we go forward.
Thanks Robert,
Looking forward to our talk Thursday-
Linda
