Creating Your Account & Filtered Profiles…
It’s Set Up & Configuration that Counts
Google makes it really easy to register. From here, we have 3 ways we can get to our Analytics Account.
1) Existing User- If we are already a Google subscriber to other products simply use your existing user name and password.
2) AdWords & Analytics Access- Create an account through AdWords by clicking the Analytics Tab. Turn auto tagging on
3) Analytics Access Only - Create a new account

Regardless of the sign up method used you will be greeted with the same screen once you have completed the sign up process. Scroll to the bottom and find the “Add a Website Profile” Link.

How to Make Your Own Profiles
1) For your first domain click “Add a Profile for a new domain” button
2) Enter the website address

3) Make sure “Apply Cost Data” Checkbox in checked (for AdWords)
Then navigate back to your settings page and add another profile. Repeat 2 more times as shown below.
The difference with subsequent profiles

Create 3 or 4 Profiles
For each website I like to create 3 or 4 profiles that are visibly date stamped.
1) Master d/m/y- Optimized, fully configured and filtered profile. This profile is the one we
use for reporting (excludes paid traffic if applicable).
2) Paid Only d/m/y- Includes only PPC Traffic. Goals and filters applied.
3) Raw d/m/y - No filters with goals configured.
4) Sandbox d/m/y - Goals and filters applied. This filter is used for testing advanced expressions and filters.
Note: If you create a “paid only” profile I recommend using a filter excluding all traffic but paid traffic.

When you complete profile creation you should see something like this in your settings page (you must be logged into your Google Analytics account for this link to work).
