Specify the Home Page
Have you ever noticed a funny looking “” that shows up in your Google Analytics report? The reason you see that is because you have not set your home page. When you are setting up Google Analytics one of the steps that you should take is setting the default homepage. When you tell Google Analytics what your home page address is that ugly backslash showing up in your reports will disappear.

Filter IP Addresses and Ranges
Filtering an IP address takes only a few moments and is a step that helps keep your data clean with pure visits. But what happens if you work on a network of many people on the same IP range? Normally you would have to write your own regular expression that would simply block the entire range of IP addresses. This requires advanced knowledge and testing before you know the filter is functioning properly. On a large network it is really important because many people from your company made logon to your website without intentions to buy what you are selling. Therefore your data becomes clouded. You can use the free Google Analytics IP Range Blocking tool that will write your expression required to block your entire network from showing up in Google Analytics reporting. All you need to do is enter the beginning IP address and ending IP address.

Determine Goal Match Type to Use
There are three goal match types you can use for setting your goals. The most commonly used is head match. Exact match will display exactly what is present in the browser URL address bar. Regular expressions will help you distill a URL that has many identifiers. You can use the regular expression match to customize how you want your URL to be filtered. In order to make the best decision for goal type matches you will need to understand your objectives and coding language used to create your website.

Placing the Google Analytics Tracking Code
Most of the time, placing the code on the website is a breeze. Now that we have uncovered any challenges through a thorough pre website analysis integration the code will be placed accurately. Where special customized code was determined to be a requirement we can now place it. That includes placing custom ecommerce code, cross domain linking or any other challenge we uncovered during pre website analysis questionnaire inputting. You can also use the Google Analytics code generation page to create customized cross domain linking code.

One of the easiest and best ways to verify the code has been integrated the accurately on your website is to use the free sitescan. When you use this tool make note of the number of web pages that have Google Analytics tracking code placed improperly. At the time of this tutorial almost half of the web pages on the Internet had the Google Analytics tracking code placed incorrectly. This means that half of the world is making decisions based on clouded data in Google Analytics.

After you enter your e-mail and web site address the system will automatically send you an excel file with a detailed report. In this report you’ll see the pages that code is present on and the pages there is no code present on.

Adding Site Search to Your Website
When you enable site search you will be able to see the keywords that people enter into your internal search engine. If you begin to study the behaviors of people that use your search engine you will determine what they really want when they come to your website. This is one level deeper than Google search. If someone types of phrase into Google search and finds your website, then uses your search engine it tells you exactly what people are looking for. I say activate site search if you have your own search engine.
