New Feature- Google Analytics Alerts
Google Analytics can be used to automatically check your website for conversion watching, erratic trend changes, or unusual traffic patterns. There are events and actions that happen on every web site that would be interesting to know about. It could be something as simple as a pay per click landing page conversion.

Why Set Up Google AdWords and Analytics?
Real Conversation
James Says “I have my own methods of tracking ROI that do not include using Google Analytics. I find Google Analytics is too complicated and I end up doing a lot of nothing. Am I missing out on something?” James Payne
Robert Says “Yes you are James, accelerated ROI. Develop a key performance indicator strategy and you will not feel like a puppy dog chasing his tail. This is especially important when you are using Google AdWords (paid traffic)” Robert Kennedy

Website Analytics Resistance
Website analytics are being overlooked and misunderstood by many organizations from my perspective. There are the elite few that truly leverage the capability and effectiveness of intelligent website analysis. Why do some people oppose data driven decisions? I think we need to look at the emotional side of deliberative and analytic processes. It’s not that we really have to but if we do, our delivery can be enhanced. We should try to understand who we are talking to when presenting our analytic report.
Case and Point
I recently delivered one of my most telling reports to a well established business. As you can see (other than the Christmas season) this website gets its fair share of traffic. The bounce rate is great; visitors are looking at almost 8 pages per visit. With about half a million monthly visitors we can tell at a glance visitors are engaged with this website.

Tips For Analyzing Your Analyst
Have An Eye For Conversion
From plenty of experience with landing pages, conversion and usability mind blowing reports can be created. This can be especially beneficial with pay per click advertising spending. Generally, your website will receive traffic from 2 possible streams:
- Pay for it- Yahoo! AdWords, MSN, Facebook, etc
- Earn it- natural rankings, referrals, links (votes), etc
Converting traffic through these two sources is two separate arts that can both be closely examined in Google Analytics (especially AdWords)
Suggested Questions to Ask
- Are you experienced with usability and conversion?
- How can you illustrate conversion to me in web analytics software?

Google Analytics Client Questions
Below is an original request from Linda who has given me permission to post our conversation. Linda has many good questions in Google Analytics. This is one of many email talks Linda and I have had. She is quite savvy and asks question that are far deeper then Analytics alone. I am a believer that the more you know about how things work online the better your analytics skills will be. Linda is a perfect example. Below is Linda’s second email

I am a business owner that creates websites. Many of my clients are requesting analytics and reports from analytics. Because I have developed a trusting relationship my clients they trust me to bring them sound advice on website analytics. I have been looking at Google for the simple reason that it’s free. I have also read up on the pros and cons of Google’s hosted solution, it seems the biggest barrier is not controlling your own data. I have also seen several comments on a lag in data reporting. If the data appears in my reports within 24 hours I am OK with that. As far as Google owning the data, I can see we are able to download our data through the API tool or from report interface. All things considered I would like to go ahead and learn some of the finer points in set up and reporting. I got your name from one of your other students; he tells me your methods of one on one teaching are excellent. I want to go ahead and take the same course Rick did but before I do I have some questions.
