Google Organic Ranking- Part 2
3) Content Keyword Focus
This technique is one I have recently introduced as a result of the number of websites with content problems preventing ranking. It is absolutely effective. What is the algorithmic message of your content?

I am not even going to explain how this works, just study it and you’ll get it!
There are a couple of Google’s cutting edge search technologies at work here that I have studied. One is LSA/LSA and the other is Bayesian logic (Thomas Bayes-1719). Ultimately, I believe these two technologies work hand in hand determining the majority of spam documents found on the internet. If I don’t mention stuff like this; you may never know! Moreover, you’ll understand what I mean when I say your content sucks.
Why Does your Content Suck?
- Poorly written- spelling mistakes, poor punctuation, spun content.
- Not focused- “Tell em what yur gonna tell em, tell em, tell em what you just told em”- can’t remember who’s quote, but it’s not mine.
- Hard on the Eyes- Poor use of <h> tags and bold face which both help the user find what they are looking for.
- No Interlinking- All good documents lead to relevant documents. Dead end pages are not a good idea.
- No use of Juicy Words- Break out the emotions, talk to your people, call them to action, use thought provoking terms, talk in metaphors, use expert verbiage, purposed use of primary and theme keywords (do not stuff).
4) Primary Keyword Drill Down
Here’s where it’s possible I will have opposition! I don’t like using Word Tracker, Keyword discovery, etc. They are great programs and I am not knocking them but they really just skim the surface. I want to own the iceberg! To do that we need to know what’s below the water line. That’s where I use tools that don’t come cheap BUT the proof is always in the pudding. Keywords form the backbone of your website blueprint. Ultimately the one who finds the keyword sweet spot first wins! The objective of this phase is to collect the keyword market data that will mold into a wire frame blueprint for your site.
5) Secondary Keyword Drilldown to Blueprint Output
Content Writing & Page Formatting
Kind of like an orchestra leader you can take all the on page elements and make them play together. This is done by putting all of the steps above into action. After composing unique, persuasive & purposed content; 400-600 words per article it needs to play with the H1, H2, etc heading Tags. <h1>These Are Your Title Tags </h1>. Furthermore, we need to bring all your Meta keyword data into the song as well.
6) Image Alt Tags

Alt (alternate) tags provide search engines and people with a definition of each image. They look like this <img src=”directory/images/yourimage.gif” alt=”This is an alt tag” width=”800″ height=”134″ />. Alts tags are also helpful for the visually impaired. It is considered generally good manners to build a website with images containing alt tags.
7) Content Interlinking
The links that appear on each web page should be thought of as a way to tell someone more about the page they are on. Good interlinking will logically drill deeper into subject matter with descriptive anchor text. Additionally, I like to use the title attribute as well.
Example
<a href=”test3.php” title=”Text Linking Sample”>Interlinking Example </a>
(Note Difference in title vs. anchor text)
Server Settings & Redirecting
301 Redirects are needed when pages cannot be found anymore. They direct a search engine & people to where the new page is located. Any old or renamed pages are redirected with new ones. You also want to look at canonical redirecting which requires. You’ll also want to modify the .htaccess file on your server from non www to www.
9) Robots TXT
Apply the NO index, no follow, and set any other crawler rules in the file. It is mostly used for bots that visit your site. Sometimes you may want a rule that does not allow certain crawlers access to certain pages or directories. You may have directories you don’t want spidered to avoid duplicate content penalties. Just be careful you don’t apply “noindex” to engines like Google if you see value in organic ranking. NOindex is often used to avoid content duplication penalties.
10) Create XML Sitemap- Google Sitemap
This is easily created using Google webmaster tools. All you require is a webmaster tool account and you will be able to use the Google site map generator. This is usually done after a website is constructed.
11) HTML Sitemap- Generated from Software
I like to create a sitemap from my own crawler. I can check for errors, broken links and other important stuff. This site map is used to fix items reported as broken then output again and published on the site.
12) Create Custom 404 Page
Who knows how some people find your site? One thing is for certain, you will never be able to predict where and how people find your site (AdWords is the closest you’ll get). Let me give you 1 simple example of a good link gone bad (BTW, this does happen). Someone copies your link to a page; somehow an extra space is added to the end of the URL. In raw text format it is not visible unless you know what to look for. When you copy and paste it into a browser it is interpreted by the browser as: http://www.example.com%20
From now on, anytime that link is clicked it will lead to the dreaded code 404 (page cannot be displayed). Is there a way to get that poor lost visitor on your site instead of 404? YES! There are 2 steps you need to take.
- Modify htaccess file to include a rule to send any 404 request to a designated page.
- Create a special 404 page to accommodate that lost visitor. Now they FOUND your site and you have a new site visitor instead of a lost cyber sole!
Google SEO Summary
It is the nature and quality of content as it relates to the structure of your site that pronounces your keywords. When you have a good mix of content and architectural wisdom your site is attractive to search engines and visitors. How relevant and meaningful is your content? How have your links been placed in that content? These are a couple key questions to ask yourself when SEOing your beautiful website. When all is said and done SEO is just one way to drive traffic to your site. If you begin to examine SEO as it may relate to the social side of the internet we can then plan an OFF-Page strategy.
