Search and Find What you Like

Well, if you ask me there is very little luck to ranking in the top ten fold. These days, if you are in the top fold for desired key phrases, it’s probably because you deserve to be there. Quality score filters and search engine technology have come too far to make a mistake placing a garbage site where it does not belong. So, if you are a top 10 ranker–congratulations, you deserve it. But there is an additional factor in ranking that really “turns the seo industry on its ears” source Bruce Clay.

Welcome to Universal Search

Personal search is the way Google is delivering results to every user now. These days a lot of your ranking power is in the hands of each person that looks for your products. People can now tailor make search results the way they want to see them. Additionally Google will help you remember what things you search for more frequently. Every user will have different search habits. I guess what I am trying to say is SEO does not exist as we have come to understand it over the years. SEOers that are using old school SEO (algorithmic approach) techniques can put that whole school of thought away forever.

Do Some Sole Searching Sole Searching

Let me ask you a question that will require thought and honesty, “Are you ranking well because your site is well SEOed or because it is really a wholesome site”? This is important because search engine algorithms are approaching human intelligence levels. They (Google especially) employ technologies that would blow most network engineers away. When you SEO your site, who are you optimizing for? If the answer is people (like it should be) then you have been promoted to a marketing specialist…congratulations and welcome aboard!

Google Search Engineering

First, let me share a little secret with you. One of the people I have followed for a couple years now is Daphne Google Search Engineering Koller. A friend of mine on Facebook pointed this out through a conversion. Who is she? To people that actually do some digging you will learn she is a Professor in the Stanford AI Lab. She is an expert in artificial intelligence. I learned, through the grapevine, that she also trains (or has trained) Google Engineers. The goal of every search engine engineer is to answer the question (search query) like a human. I will ask the question again, what is Search engine Optimization and who are your SEOing your site for?

Where Does Search Engine Optimization Begin? Search Engine Optimization Begin

Let’s turn the page on SEO because I think the term has seen its day (thanks Bruce). I like to think in terms of VCO (visitor conversion optimization) ORP (Organic Result Planning) or VTM (visitor trigger mapping). All of these phrases include the two most important elements of a successful online business: “VISITOR” & “RESULT”. Those are the two important objectives we are optimizing a site for. The whole strategy for effective SEO starts in one place and ends in one place.

  1. Starts- When the person is entering the phrase into the search engine. Every 1 of over 750 million daily Google searches represents a person that is keying a phrase in. What are they thinking? What phrase do they enter? How do does your landing page greet that visitor that entered that phrase?
  2. Ends- Conversion is the endgame. Whether it’s a product sale, lead or even a page view on a prime page…reaching the goal is where we want our visitors to end up.

That is SEO summed up. The more we can get into the mind of someone who enters the phrase “say I am sorry” SEO summed upthe better we can help them solve their problem. With the example phrase we can assume certain things about this person.

  • They feel they owe someone an apology.
  • They are upset in some way to feel apologetic.
  • They care about the person they are apologizing to.

That’s insight into the emotional state of that person. Now we can create a webpage that catches their tears.

Now, if we are solving people’s problems we are going to get the thumbs up on the personal search side. VOTING MATTERS! Between Google Personal search and social networks search engine algorithms can see a lot more to qualify where sites should rank. Yes, it is factored into ranking results I believe. There is no stronger citation to a site then thousands of votes from different people. That cannot be manipulated…imitated maybe, but not for long.

People Control the Internet

How to Get Natural Ranking Get Natural Ranking

Requirements include the correct keyword strategy, site architecture, great content, educational values, authority status, incoming links, social presence, and visitor engagement.

That’s only half the battle!

  1. What happens when the visitor lands on your site?
  2. How did they arrive?
  3. What are they thinking?
  4. Where did they go and where did they leave?

Google Analytics answers all these questions

When your visitor typed a phrase into a search engine, clicked a link, entered your web address, or clicked on a banner to arrive at your webpage is when the game begins. By the action the visitor took to get to your website we can determine the mood of the visitor. Now we can think more about conversion (visitors takes the desired action).
Visitor Optimization Conclusion
When you are optimizing your website there are countless factors to think about. Decisions need to be made; focus on those decisions should be implemented and measured. If you are striving to make the best out of your website, the most effective forms of optimization come with market research and website testing. With the two working in perfect harmony your website will roar like a lion.
