Getting Cards Embossed Overview

Create Unseen Effects With Embossing

The outcome of the embossed effect is unique and elegant. It can be used to add extra graphic pizzazz to your stationery, reports, or booklets. But it is not always used for ornamental purposes. The engraved effects of embossing also have a very practical use for the vision impaired. Braille embossers provide a means for blind people to read. They do this by using their fingers where they feel the surface to read it. For blind and sighted people this unique form of embossed paper treatment has been practiced for centuries. Let’s examine the a few types of embossing you can experiment with.

Dry Embossing

Here you use a stylus combined with a tracing technique to form a pattern on paper. The pattern can be raised or depressed depending on which side of the paper is up.

The Basics of Heat Embossing

This embossing technique is commonly used in scrapbook building. To perform heat embossing you will need the following items:

* These Items can be found at your local arts and Craft Supply stores
* Stamp stamping for imagery or alpha characters
* A Heat gun
* Embossing Powder
* Embossing ink pad

Embossed Printing General

Embossing is most often practiced for decorative purposes. Its affects are timeless, elegant, memorable, and lasting. It is often produced on larger solid areas and is known for its subtle broad features. Embossing forces (stresses) a material to create raised or depressed bumps. With embossed printing it is a process where areas of paper are patterned by forcing paper fibers to move from pressure treatments. It is inherently difficult process when the embossed impression contains fine line detail.

Embossed printing will add elegance to fine patterns you want to tastefully integrate into your corporate image. By making an image raised or depressed you are adding an extra dimensions to your imagery. The effect will change the nature of the material you present to your viewers. By giving it a quaint look your image is enhanced by a blank impression onto paper. It can include print imagery or blank. An image without ink is known as blind embossing. A blank impression onto paper is made used as a unique graphic affect of a reading instrument for blind people (Braille).

You can get into embossing effects for your business sooner than you think; all you need is a professional company that has the desire to stand out from the crowd. With clever planning and a secure business budget the elegant look of embossing will give you enhanced imagery. Your local arts and craft store will provide you with all the tools you need to create your own cool embossing effects. It is a good place to start if you’re looking for your own unique prototypes.

3-D Print-Making Engraving Effects

One of the most common uses for embossed printing in printmaking is logos. When you emboss logos you are raising areas of a paper above the level of the paper’s natural state. During the actual production of embossed printing several tons of pressure is used. The embossing die and the embossed paper become united in a printing press and the impression of the brass or magnesium plate is left on the surface of the paper.

Often (not always) colour inks, spot color printing and varnishing are combined. When inks are not included in embossed printing it is known as blind embossed. This form of embossed engraving is also used to produce Brail, which is how the vision impaired people read. When you get your printing Blind embossed in business it is recognized as luxurious and extravagant.

To begin the embossed print process you need a concept. Once you have your graphic elements visualized they need to be illustrated in line art form. Next you will need to make a die for embossing. The least expensive way to produce the embossing die is to use magnesium based dies. They can be created photo-mechanically or digitally. This method of embossing paper may not be what you are looking for. Perhaps you want multi levels to your embossing die. In this case you need to define the depth of layers. A good example of embossed printing can be found here. This will help you understand what is involved in making a plate by using layers.

Making the communication method from an embossed printing buyer to the vendor of choice clarity.  Logos should be delivered clearly and concisely if perfection is the goal. Embossed Printing involves changing the shape of embossed paper to create multi-levels of fine imagery with paper. To transfer your desired effect on paper precisely, a simplification and outlines of the effect are required. Executed properly a beautiful three dimensional design on elegant paper will be sure to dazzle the most cynical design critics.

This old school, fine line, elegant method of printmaking is not cheap. The embossing die that is needed can also have tremendous impact on the price of embossed printing. A mag (magnesium) die, Brass Cup die, Brass Sculptured die are all priced much differently. I have listed them in order of production costs, the least expensive being a magnesium die. The basic rule of thumb is, this style of print- making is double the price of conventional printing using inks, at least.

The process of embossing is a lot like foil stamping, in fact the embossing machines that perform custom embossing also produce foil stamping. The added part to the process is the transfer of foil, which is applied from a roll that feeds into the embossing press as required. It can also bee combined with embossing ink, spot colors, and CMYK colors.

If you want to take a look at various simulations of embossing effects it can be achieved through graphics software such as Adobe Photo Shop. By using modern day technology you can virtually see your finished product before any expensive tooling takes place. This is a convenience that was not available when I began to learn this fine print making art. One fact remains about embossed printing projects is it converts ordinary in to the extraordinary.

Commercial Printing & Litho is Alive

Despite the rumors you hear the world of offset printing is alive. It's not like it used to be though. In fact, those that are still paying with chemicals, plates and negatives are probably on their last legs, if not already extinct. Printers have always been regarded as a reputable sector to work with. A printing company with the right leaders at the helm can really diversify today.
